Backseat Drivers

A bumper-kart race in cars of two: one steers, one drives. Same track, everyone at once, oil everywhere.

How a round plays

Everyone is put in a car with one other person. One of you holds the steering, the other holds the gas and the items. Let go of the steering and the car follows the road on its own, so nobody spins out by accident — but flat out will not hold a hairpin, so somebody has to ask for the lift and somebody has to give it. Three laps at least, everyone on the track at once, oil slicks everywhere.

What makes it different

It is the only game in the box that runs in real time, and the only one where two people share one set of controls. That is what stops it being a driving game: the skill is not thumbs, it is the two of you agreeing about a corner half a second before you reach it. Walls bounce rather than punish, a spin lasts under a second, and last place draws the best items — so nobody is ever out of it.
